For those yet unaquainted with our fine establishment, My name is Dave, im the social chair and webmaster for the year, this is my 2nd year running the site, so if you want to read lasts years posts and get a flavour of whats its like, be my guest, but if you want to retain your sanity…maybe its better not…You cant say i didnt warn you!

For sixth formers, there is an open day this Thursday and Friday, the 10th and 11th of September in the students union, where your free to come and have a wee chat with us and see what were about!

For all you queens folk! The Freshers bazaar is on Wednesday, 30th of September, This is where you can come down, chat to us, and join the club! We’ll have a stall allocated to us, and we shall try and score some free food, See how generous we are?! We have a very large membership of mixed ages and genders, so dont worry about feeling left out, there is always plenty of people to mix with! Plus im like that tom guy from myspace…your default friend, so im like the ultimate mother goose…with more hair…and…i dont look like a goose…but thats a different story.

Tennis will not begin until the first wednesday of october, but we shall give you more information on that at the bazaar! I look forward to seeing everyone back, i promise its gonna be an exciting year!

08/09 Done & Dusted, Time to give the balls a rest!

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

Hey all!

The following are announcements relating to next year + relieving the memories/nightmares of the year gone by!

With the AGM being held today, The new Committee members for the 09/10 Year are as follows:

Captain- James Spencer
Treasurer- Simon Guist
Social+Webmaster- David Smith
Secretary- Declan McGilloway

Id like to thank this years committee members for a tremendous job, Chris Scorah for his impressive organisation& running of the Irish Tennis Intervarsities, Naomi Hughes for good nights out during the year, Aidan Malone for his stylish secretarial skills and without whose epic google maps we wouldnt have made it to any district league matches, James Spencer for his treasuring (Ai Ai captain rage-eye? Peg legs+ patches for next year i think)+ driving skills (lets not forgot those memorable pyschopathic moments), & Myself - mere words cannot express how awesome i truly i am, Lets face it…im the glue that holds everything together! Like a glue made of manly gorgeousness! Ok, maybe i exaggerated that a tiny bit, but i definitely didnt scare any girls away as Aidan would tell you….Pah! Steven Smith who did….captaining? lol go steven! No-one knows exactly what Steven does….but its dangerous… Like running into a monkey inclosure and screaming obscenities about bananas…. were all glad steven would lay his life on the line like that for us.

I would like to congratulate Simon Guist and David Smith for remaining in the top spots on the respective Ladders. We win a years free membership to the club next year (Score!) Thats like….70 quids worth of booze next year! And in the current economic climate…we never sniff at free booze + NHS care for hepatic impairment (All who wish to join my crusade to contract swine flu and thus recieve a free mask, email me! I know…giving out masks for free…crazy).

Id also like to congratulate the district league team of Steven, James, Brendan, Aidan, Rayan and I for a superb performance, and hopefully we can come first next year! Next year we plan on entering the Winter league and the Spring Doubles+singles League so it should be a very productive year so watch this space!

My final thanks goes out to our 4 Intervarsities teams and also a big thanks to all the other universities that came down and hopefully we can put up an equally strong performance in Dublin next year!

I would also like to say a fond farewell to all those members leaving Queens this year, and i wish you all well in your future careers (this phrase seems very uncharacteristic of me…better go back to the monkeys…)

Well, Its been a brilliant year… Probably the most successful in a long while! We had our very first octopus join the squad, and man did he bring some elite aquatic skills to the table! We had our first ever district league win! and also got into the Mens Final of the intervarsities for the first time since the 1960’s! Im personally proud of our family of marine wildlife/maniacs/alcoholics  and i hope next year we will improve in our strive for alcohol fuelled perfection!….Oh…and i forgot…Never ever mention the Cat food or Cream “experience” again. Good Luck in your Exams, and Ill see Y’all next year!

Victorius! well…considerable better than last time! Yaaaa

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

Congratulations to our District league team, who played brilliantly throughout the season. We notched up some considerable wins under the belt, but unfortunately we could not claim the top spot (which went to Lurgan) But neverless it was a valiant attempt for our first time in the singles league, and a definite improvement over last years winter league performance!

And as another wee side note, Id like to persuade all you people to come down to the tennis club, even if you backed out before because it was too cold/rainy/your hair needed to be washed etc becuase as Bob Marley said “The sun is shining, the weather is sweet!” And you know you all wanna work off that easter weight, dont want all those chocolate eggs goin to your hips do you? So give those books a good kickin and come down on wednesday to join us for a wee hit!

Lethal Easter Crack

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009

As many of you are hoping, unfortunately this post is not about the dealing of illegal substances.

First id like to say congratulations to the District league team who had their first win on monday night! And now onto some mad tales…..

Yesterday, 4 brave and mighty queens lads took the perilous trip down to the grand city of Dublin! We journey’d far and wide on our noble steed aka “The Goldline”. As you can imagine….facilities were not in availiability and only the strongest of bladder and stomach survived. We exited the dublin tunnel into the dappled sunlight and our pale ghostlike faces took on a pearly sheen as those who rarely see this meterological phenomenon.  We wandered about for a while wondering where to go…but a chance meeting with a fellow traveller known as a taxi man guided us like a magical and witty oracle to the Lansdowne Tennis Club for the cost of 8 pieces of silver and James’ hand in marriage.

We availed of the bar initially, to wet our appetites for the destruction to come. The club was very nice, and people were great. We got a few games in, but under that blazing inferno it was like playing in a george foreman grill on the “Hell” setting. Our vast experience of lethal gales, and freezing blizzards and monsoon rain did not help us in the quest. Notable quotes include “Howl on there bin hoker!” and james- “POKEY POKITY POKE POKE” with traditional rage included, and the best was Brian from ucd “We got unlucky in belfast with the weather” Brendan-”I thought that was a pretty good week….it only rained…on 2 outta 3 of my matches”

Once we finished our reign of destruction, we dandered up to TempleBar- A pretty groovy joint if your considering goin to dublin, good bars+restaurants. We sat and stuffed our gobs on the spoils of victory (and i think we downed 3 jugs of water) which….in retro spect to the upcoming bus trip maybe not such an educated decision.

We took the bus back home around 9 and some craic was had on that journey……You had to live the dream to enjoy the trip like. Lets just say…it was so lethal….its almost illegal to post it online. Fascinating discoveries made on the trip though is that Andrew has a fascination with Shoes+Bags, James has the worst memory, Im awesome (and not any of those slanderous things i was called!), and brendan….should really learn to stay away from bins.

Id like to thank the guys that came, you were an inspiration…id also like to thank my agent……. oh and Save the dolphins…. wooo. We all had an amazing time, and id like to thank brian and the rest of ucd +trinity for letting us come down and play and we’ll see y’all soon hopefully!

Dublin Trip

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

Hey everyone, As some of you already know, QUBTC + DCU have been invited down to attend the colours match between Trinity and UCD.

It is on wednesday 8th of April, With the colours match beginning at 10am and lasting until 4pm. I have been informed that we can get a friendly match at around 1 or 2pm but just for the craic and your not obliged to play (although it would be good experience seeing as intervarsities will be in dublin next year. or for those of us playing district league).
At night there is black tie “Raquet ball” being held in The Radisson royal hotel on Golden Lane,  this will be like our Formals, and there will be players from all raquet sports from both UCD and Trinity attending. It begins at 7pm-11:30pm (although we are advised that food wont be served until 9pm, so we can get a few pre-drinks in and show up around 8/8:30pm). After the formal, we are heading out to a club on Harcourt Street, which is near St Stevens Green, which will last until around 3am.

We will be staying over for one night accomodation, and leaving on Thursday 9th of April. Costs are as follows

Bus Return ticket (Belfast Central->Dublin central)= ~£17
Train Return=~£36 (For those that want to travel in style)
One nights accomodation varies between 18-25 Euro

Dinner will be provided at the formal, and you can either bring your own food for lunch, but i dont reckon it should be too expensive. Email/Text us if you would like to come, remember this is perhaps a unique occasion and hasnt been done before, so potentially is a once in a life-time opportunity! So get back to us ASAP so we can get this show on the road.

Intervarsities 09

Sunday, March 29th, 2009

Hey everyone!

Intervarsities 09 have finished and an unforgettable time was had by all (well, im pretty sure you wont forget the taste of cat food anyway). On behalf of QUBTC id like to thank all the universities that took part in making IV09 such a success. I know many of us have had a lot of other commitments this week but im glad you all pulled to together and skivved off your lectures/labs and work with commendable ease.

Id like to congratulate the winners and runners up of the event, although im told by a certain marine creature that “i never lose” Murphy may have not that title for long. (Dead Man Walking! haha)

We have made many friends this year, and together with our teams we have all had a fantastic time (or as our southern compadres would say “It wuz deeeeaaadly!”), so id like to say a final thank you and farewell, and will see you all in Dublin for IV10!

And Brendan, “Stop hokin nem bins!”
